UK, six firms discussing gigafactories - report

The United Kingdom government and local authorities are discussing building gigafactories for electric vehicle battery production with six companies, the Financial Times reported.

Ford Motor Company, Nissan Motor Company Ltd., LG Corporation and Samsung Group are four major global corporations that are negotiating with British officials, along with start-ups Britishvolt and InoBat Auto.

The government expects the construction of gigafactories to help it maintain the auto industry in the country, while at the same time enable it to keep up with climate-related goals it set earlier, according to the report.
