US Climate Envoy visits Middle East ahead of COP26

United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry completed his official trip to the United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Arab Republic of Egypt on Wednesday to promote a successful G20 summit and fruitful Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

After meeting with UAE leadership, the leaders reaffirmed that joint commitment to the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate) will formally launch in November at the COP26 in Glasgow. Both parties also discussed mobilizing investments in the clean energy sector, especially on the Indian market.

With Saudi government representatives, Kerry discussed pathways and initiatives to scale up clean energy investments and innovations, such as hydrogen and carbon capture technologies, to help Saudi Arabia achieve its goal of generating 50% of the electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
