Iran's Araghchi: Nuclear deal closer than ever

Iran's top negotiator in nuclear talks in Vienna Abbas Araghchi stated on Thursday that fundamental issues still remain in the discussions, but the parties are closer to an agreement on the nuclear deal than ever before. He admitted that all sides must make tough decisions, adding that Tehran has done its part by committing to the JCPOA despite the withdrawal of the United States.

"Good and tangible progress has been made on various issues during Vienna talks. We believe that we are closer to an agreement than any time before, but there are still certain outstanding issues, which need more deliberation," Araghchi said.

The Iranian official added that "Iran has been victimized" and that Washington needs to rectify the damages it caused by pulling out of the deal and imposing sanctions. Araghchi shared that his delegation is seeking guarantees that the US won't withdraw from the deal ever again should a different administration step in.
