WH expects to meet its July 4 vaccination target

White House Coordinator of the COVID-19 Response Jeffrey Zients (pictured) stated on Thursday that the administration believes it will meet its July 4 deadline for having 70% of all adult Americans inoculated with at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Talking to reporters, Zients said that they will reach the 70% milestone and go beyond it over the summer months, in order to safely reopen the country. Additionally, the COVID response team asserted that people shouldn't think that reopenings mean that the threat is gone, but rather that the health and safety conditions have been met for it to happen.

Zients made the comments when he was asked about the dwindling vaccination rate, from an average of 500,000 people getting the shot at the start of the month to 200,000 last week, and he urged anyone who wasn't vaccinated to book an appointment, saying that "getting vaccinated is as important now as it ever was."
