EU to assess extension on chilled meats grace period

The European Commission confirmed on Thursday that they have received a request by the United Kingdom to extend the grace period on chilled meats by three months and is in the process of assessing the request.

The Commission also reasserted its willingness to find solutions that are in line with the Northern Ireland Protocol, and that providing "stability and predictability" for the people of the region is of "paramount importance."

However, the European Union's governing body warned that there will be "no alternative to the Protocol," adding that the UK must fully implement all its provisions that help protect the Good Friday Agreement and the EU's Single Market.
