N. Ireland DUP new leader resigns

The newly appointed leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) in Northern Ireland, Edwin Poots (pictured), has resigned less than one month after being elected.

"This has been a difficult period for the Party and the country and I have conveyed to the [party] Chairman my determination to do everything I can to ensure both Unionism and Northern Ireland is able to move forward to a stronger place," Poots said in a statement.

He will remain the DUP leader until the party elects his successor.
