Consumer prices in Japan decline 0.1% in May

Japan's Consumer prices index stood at 101.7 in May, down 0.1% compared to the same month a year ago, the country's Statistics Bureau revealed on Friday. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.3%.

Excluding fresh food and energy, the annual inflation rate stood at negative 0.2% in May. Furniture and household utensils' prices were up 2.1% year-on-year, while the transportation and communication charges decreased 1.5% compared to May 2020.

The prices of goods rose by 0.4% annually, while services' prices were down 0.7%.
