Olympics to have up to 20,000 spectators at Opening - report

Tokyo 2020 Olympics organizers are thinking of setting an attendance cap of 20,000 for the Opening Ceremony on July 23, Kyodo reported on Sunday.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, the total number of spectators allowed in the venue for the ceremony includes ticket holders from the public, as well as officials related to the Games. Additionally, organizers are set to meet on Monday to formally decide on spectator limits at the Games, as they tried to limit the number of officials allowed to attend the event in person.

Earlier, the organizers unveiled the coronavirus measures that would be in place in the Olympic village, while Tokyo banned public viewing events of the Olympics due to the ongoing pandemic in the country.
