FDA adds Moderna, Pfizer shot heart risk warning

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced it revised fact sheets for COVID-19 vaccines made by Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech to include information on risks of myocarditis and pericarditis. The agency stated the update follows "an extensive review of information" by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), after over 1,200 cases of the conditions have been identified, especially among 16 to 24-year-olds.

The FDA said the fact sheet will include warnings of "increased risks of myocarditis and pericarditis, particularly following the second dose and with onset of symptoms within a few days after vaccination," adding "vaccine recipients should seek medical attention right away if they have chest pain, shortness of breath, or feelings of having a fast-beating, fluttering, or pounding heart after vaccination."
