Europe opens higher with economic updates in focus
Major stock markets in Europe opened higher on Friday after the United Kingdom reported monthly rises in both its gross domestic product (GDP) and industrial production. Earlier, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde promised the institution will react in case there is a divergence from the inflation goal of 2%. Traders are now waiting for the updates from the ECB's latest Monetary Policy Meeting.
The DAX opened 0.51% higher as MTU Aero Engines AG advanced by 1.50%. The FTSE 100 increased by 0.40%, with International Consolidated Airlines Group SA going up by 2.65%. The CAC 40 expanded by 0.60% as Safran SA rose by 2.78%.
The euro lost 0.11% to the dollar to sell for $1.18314 at 8:57 am CET. At the same time, the pound sterling declined by 0.13% against the greenback to change hands for $1.37672.
