US opens higher amid data reports

Major stock markets in the United States opened higher on Friday, as investors digested the latest data on the state of the economic recovery in the country. Before the bell was rung, it was reported that retail sales in June had a better-than-expected rise, while business inventories in May and consumer sentiment for July will be unveiled later in the day.

In other news, the Bank of America reportedly approved trading for Bitcoin futures, Moderna is set to join the S&P 500 index, and Ford recalled around 850,000 vehicles over safety issues.

The Dow Jones opened 0.28% higher, led by Intel Corp gaining 1.94%. The Nasdaq 100 started 0.35% up, with Moderna rising 5.35%. The S&P 500 was 0.32% in the green, as Live Nation Entertainment increased 3.10%. The euro stood flat against the dollar trading for $1.18093 at 9:31 am ET.
