Third COVID wave to hit peak in 'early September' - UK's Jenrick

United Kingdom Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick (pictured) stated on Sunday that Downing Street doesn't expect the third wave of COVID-19 in the country to peak until "late August or early September."

In an interview with Sky News, Jenrick said that there will be "some quite challenging weeks ahead," urging people to download the National Health Service's track and trace app in order to help contain the spread of the virus. He also noted that the planned August 16 isolation regime change, when those that have been fully vaccinated won't have to isolate if they came in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID, will be a " significant step forwards."

On the topic of vaccines, Jenrick pointed out that the recent positive test of the Health Secretary proves that there is "no fail-safe vaccine" that will provide 100% effectiveness, but that it is still "very good at helping people to avoid serious illness." Lastly, he said that vaccinating those under 18 "seems like a sensible thing to do," but that they are waiting for further expert advice on how to approach it.
