Asia trades lower as coronavirus concerns grow

Equities on Asian markets started the week's trading session lower on Monday as concerns about spiking coronavirus numbers seem to be overshadowing optimism regarding vaccinations and lifted restrictions, and with the spread of the new Delta variant of the virus also weighing on market sentiment.

On the Chinese mainland, the Shenzhen Composite traded 0.48% lower at 04:34 am CET, with the Shanghai Composite down by 0.85% at the same time. Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell by 2.11% at 4:35 am CET, as South Korea's Kospi Composite went 1.14% down and the Australian S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.84%.

At 04:35 am CET the dollar traded 0.15% lower against the yen, going for ¥109.9095, while Japan's Nikkei 225 lost 1.49%.
