European shares sink as fourth wave fears take hold

Shares on the major stock market indexes in Europe extended losses on Monday, as the investors remained worried over the spread of the coronavirus' Delta variant.

The sentiment across the European stock markets mostly mirrored that of Wall Street, where the Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbled more than 500 points in the premarket.

The DAX plunged 2.73% at 2:43 pm CET dragged by Deutsche Bank and RWE, while the FTSE lost 2.44% at the same time. The CAC 40 concurrently dived 2.65%. The euro slid 0.23% compared to the dollar, selling for 1.17774 at 2:46 pm CET, while the pound surrendered 0.5% to the greenback, to change hands at 1.36951 at the same time.
