US opens mostly higher amid earnings

Shares on the major stock market indexes in the United States opened the trading session on Wednesday mostly in the green as the investors digested the earnings reports unveiled during the day and monitored the news regarding the spread of the coronavirus' Delta variant.

Verizon Communications Inc., Coca-Cola Company, and COVID vaccine maker Johnson & Johnson all reported better-than-anticipated results in the fiscal year's second trimester.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 0.51% or 179 points as the session started with Coca-Cola up by 2.15%. The S&P 500 advanced 0.35% at the opening bell as the Interpublic Group of Companies soared 11.02%. At the same time, the Nasdaq 100 slid 0.08% with Moderna down by 2.01%. The euro traded 0.11% lower versus the dollar, selling for 1.17670 at 9:28 am ET.
