Dow Jones jumps over 250 points at closing bell

Major stock markets in the United States posted major gains at the closing bell on Wednesday with business news and earnings results marking the day. Johnson & Johnson reached a $5 billion opioid settlement in the US, while Microsoft announced the acquisition of CloudKnox.

Legislators in the Senate are set to go ahead and proceed with Joe Biden's $1.2 trillion stimulus package, however, they need full support from the Democrats and an additional 10 votes from the Republican senators.

The Dow Jones surged 0.83% or 285 points at the close, as Chevron Corp. soared 3.42%. The Nasdaq 100 climbed 0.78% or 114 points, with ASML Holding NV surging 5.40%. The S&P 500 rose 0.82%. Chipotle Mexican Grill advanced 11.53% to lead the table. The euro gained 0.16% against the dollar to trade for 1.17996 at 4:01 pm ET.
