Precious metals decline as Delta fears lighten

Prices of precious metals slid on Friday as the investors seemingly shrugged off worries prompted by the spread of the coronavirus Delta variant and turned away from safe-haven assets.

While the number of countries continued to tighten the virus containment measures, both Pfizer and Moderna unveiled optimistic news regarding their mRNA COVID-19 jabs.

Gold slid 0.42% to $1,798.84 per ounce at 11:13 am ET, while silver lost 1.25% to go for $25.11 at the same time. Platinum tumbled 3.86% to $1,053.69 an ounce a minute later, as palladium dropped 2.08% to $2,669.88 per ounce.
