Pentagon: Afghan's military must slow Taliban's momentum

United States Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Saturday that the first job that Afghanistan's military currently has is to slow down the momentum of the Taliban forces, which have been recently expanding their territorial gains.

Amidst the fighting turmoil, Afghan authorities imposed a curfew across most parts of the country from 10 pm to 4 am. Afghanistan's Defense Ministry reported eliminating 262 Taliban terrorists and injuring 176 rebels over the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, media reports suggest that as many as 33 people have been killed in Taliban-held areas in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar over the past two weeks. Among victims were religious scholars, activists, journalists and human rights defenders. Hundreds of civilians have been captured and accused of association with the official government.
