State Dept: US, Russia hold substantive talks in Geneva

The Strategic Stability Dialogue meeting held today in Geneva between the United States and Russia was "professional and substantive," the State Department said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Washington group "discussed US policy priorities and the current security environment, national perceptions of threats to strategic stability, prospects for new nuclear arms control, and the format for future" talks.

The delegations, which were led by Deputy Secretary Wendy Sherman (pictured) and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov agreed to meet again at the end of September, while holding informal consultations in the meantime, the department said.
