IOC: Tokyo COVID surge isn't caused by Olympics

International Olympic Committee spokesperson Mark Adams asserted on Wednesday that the Olympics aren't the cause of the recent surge in daily coronavirus cases in Tokyo.

Adams stated that the Olympic Village is the "most tested community," adding that there are strict restrictions on who can enter or exit the Village in order to minimize the risk of infections. Moreover, a spokesperson for the Olympics Organizing Committee also said that he believes that the impact of the Olympics on the ongoing situation is "minimal."

Cases have continued to surge in Tokyo and across Japan over the past few days, with the number of cases in the capital breaking 3,000 for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
