Europe opens lower amid corporate earnings

Major stock markets in Europe opened lower on Friday, with traders looking at how businesses performed in the past three months. Renault, BNP Paribas, NatWest, and UniCredit released their earnings report before the bell was rung. Later in the day, gross domestic product data for Germany and the European Union will be released, with the latter also seeing reports on its unemployment rate and the consumer price index.

The DAX opened 0.94% in the red, with Fresenius SE losing 1.50%. The FTSE 100 was 0.85% down at the opening bell, as International Consolidated Airlines Group fell 3.86%. The CAC 40 began 0.39% lower, led by ArcelorMittal SA dropping 1.23%.

Both the euro and the pound stood flat against the dollar trading for $1.18849 and $1.39512 at 9:05 am CET.
