Japan consumer confidence improves in July

The consumer confidence index for Japan improved in July compared to the previous month to reach 37.5 points and beat market estimates, according to a report published by the country's Cabinet Office on Monday.

Nearly all categories contained in the index recorded a slight increase, except for the willingness to buy durable goods which slipped to 37.8 points. Overall livelihood rose to 39 points, income growth to 37.9 points and employment to 35.1 points.

Commenting on the price expectations, 79.3% of 8,400 interviewed households argued the prices would go up and 4.8% expected a decline, a small decrease for both percentages compared to June. Lastly, 13.2% estimated prices will stay the same over the year, making a slight increase.
