Brisbane lockdown extended until August 8

Queensland's local authorities announced on Monday they have extended the lockdown in Brisbane until August 8 after the Australian state registered 13 new infections from COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours, the most in one day in over a year.

"It's starting to become clear that the initial lockdown will be insufficient for the outbreak," Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles stated. The restrictions were originally supposed to end on Tuesday.

Several days ago, the lockdown in Sydney was prolonged until August 28. Meanwhile, New South Wales's authorities deployed some 300 members of the army to help with overlooking the implementation of the rules in that city.
