US opens higher ahead of data

Major stock markets on Wall Street opened higher on Monday, as traders waited for economic data reports to give an indication of the state of the economy in the United States. Manufacturing activity in the country, alongside construction spending, for July is set to be unveiled after markets open. Meanwhile, the bipartisan infrastructure bill is progressing towards a vote, and the recent surge of COVID may impact the speed of economic recovery.

The Dow Jones opened 0.31% in the green, with Honeywell International rising 1.22%. The Nasdaq 100 traded 0.61% higher at the starting bell, while the S&P 500 began 0.48% up. Both indices were led by Microchip Technology which gained 5.62% and 4.55% respectively.

The euro gained 0.11% against the dollar trading for $1.18816 at 9:32 am ET.
