Boeing to return Starliner to factory over valve issues

The Boeing Company announced on Friday it informed NASA that CST-100 Starliner will have to be disconnected from United Launch Alliance's (ULA) Atlas V rocket.

The spacecraft will subsequently be returned to Boeing's Commercial Crew and Cargo Processing Facility (C3PF) so issues surrounding four propulsion system valves could be addressed further. The latest setback means that all three parties involved will have to delay the launch until after all valve problems are fixed, thus confirming an earlier media report.

"We'll continue to work the issue from the Starliner factory and have decided to stand down for this launch window to make way for other national priority missions," Boeing Commercial Crew Program Vice President and Program Manager John Vollmer revealed.
