US senators concerned with Amazon's biometric practice

A bipartisan group of United States senators announced on Friday they had requested from Amazon information regarding its palm-print recognition and payment system used in Amazon One.

In a letter to Amazon's CEO Andy Jassy senators Bill Cassidy, Amy Klobuchar and Jon Ossoff expressed concerns that unlike other biometric systems used by tech companies, Amazon uploads the data to the cloud, risking severe security breaches.

"Amazon's expansion of biometric data collection through Amazon One raises serious questions about Amazon's plans for this data and its respect for user privacy, including about how Amazon may use the data for advertising and tracking purposes," senators wrote.
