Vaccine protection fades after 6 months - UK study

COVID-19 vaccines developed by Pfizer and BioNTech as well as AstraZeneca provide protection against the disease which starts to diminish within six months of the second dose, according to a British study published on Wednesday.

Around five months after the immunization, the protection these jabs provide dropped from 88% to 74%, in the case of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, and from 77% to 67% in the case of AstraZeneca's.

However, the United Kingdom's ZOE COVID research also noted that more data is needed when it comes to younger people since most of the vaccinated groups tend to be elderly. The protection could fall below 50% by the end of the year, ZOE Ltd founder Tim Spector warned speaking to BBC.
