German inflation up to 3.9% in August

Consumer prices in Germany rose 3.9% in August compared to the same month a year earlier, according to a Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) provisional report published on Monday. The figure was in line with expectations and marked an increase from the previous month when the inflation rate stood at a 28-year high of 3.8%.

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) was unchanged from July. The harmonized index of consumer prices for Germany climbed 3.4% on an annual basis and added 0.1% month on month.

The final inflation data for August is due to be released on September 10.
