US closes mixed, Nasdaq, S&P reach record highs

Major stock indexes in the United States finished trading on Monday with the Dow Jones Industrial Average just below the flatline, while the Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 hit new peaks. Meanwhile, the European Union recommended that the US be removed from the "safe to travel" list due to the rise in COVID-19 cases. On data, the NAR reported pending home sales in the country decreased by 1.8% in July.

The Dow closed 0.16% lower. American Express Co. was down 2.60%. The Nasdaq 100 surged 1.12% at the same time, while the S&P 500 climbed 0.43%. PayPal Holdings Inc. was the best performer on both indexes, gaining 3.64%.

The euro was flat against the dollar, changing hands for $1.17998 at 3:59 pm ET.
