Japanese consumer confidence falls in August

Consumer confidence in Japan fell in August compared to the previous month, the country's Cabinet Office stated on Tuesday. The seasonally adjusted Consumer Confidence Index stood at 36.7, down from 37.5 recorded in July.

The overall livelihood index declined by 0.9 points to 38.1, the income growth indicator was down by 0.3 points to 37.6 and the employment index dropped 1.9 points month on month to 33.2. Meanwhile, the willingness to buy durable goods stood at 37.7, losing 0.1 points compared to the month before.

The percentage of respondents who expect prices to increase over the next year was 78.5% in August, down by 0.8 percentage points from July, while 13.7% of those surveyed see them unchanged and 5% expect prices to fall.
