BSEE: 94% of oil output in Gulf of Mexico shut in

United States Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) announced on Thursday that 93.55% of the current US oil production in the Gulf of Mexico has been shut in, translating to a loss of 1.7 million barrels per day (bpd) as a consequence of Hurricane Ida.

The number of oil and gas platforms that were evacuated hit 177, or 31.61% of the total, in addition to six evacuated rigs, or 54.55% of their total. Gas production contracted 91.29% due to shut-ins.

"After the storm has passed, facilities will be inspected. Once all standard checks have been completed, production from undamaged facilities will be brought back online immediately. Facilities sustaining damage may take longer to bring back online," the BSEE said.
