84% of of oil output in Gulf of Mexico shut in - BSEE

United States Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) announced on Monday that 83.87% of the current US oil production in the Gulf of Mexico has been shut in, translating to a loss of 1.5 million barrels per day (bpd) as a consequence of Hurricane Ida.

The number of oil and gas production platforms that remained evacuated stood at 99, or 17.68% of the total. Meanwhile, 80.87% of gas production in the region was shut in.

Last week, as much as 94% of oil production in the Gulf of Mexico was shut in after Hurricane Ida hit the area. Meanwhile, the US Coast Guard announced it is investigating nearly 350 reports of oil spills along the American coast and in the Gulf following Ida.
