Europe closes mixed on COVID-19 concerns

Major stock markets in Europe closed the last session of the week mixed, with the coronavirus pandemic still causing concerns and prompting mixed sentiment among investors.

The COVID-19 dominated today's highlights. The British government reportedly plans to introduce various preventive measures to curb the spread and avoid another winter lockdown. Meanwhile, Germany recommended mRNA COVID-19 vaccines for pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as for younger women who have reached "childbearing age."

The DAX lost 0.09% at the closing bell, with Fresenius Medical Care sinking 4.81%. The CAC 40 fell by 0.31%, as URW SE plunged 3.91%. On the other hand, the FTSE 100 inched up by 0.06%. Antofagasta Plc was the top performer by soaring 3.18%. Both the euro and the pound traded slightly higher against the dollar at 5:34 pm CET to sell for 1.18312 and 1.38488, respectively.
