European shares flat at open as COVID fears ease

European indexes began the trading session on Tuesday flat amid concerns regarding inflation and the coronavirus pandemic. Countries across the continent announced they will begin administering booster jabs against COVID-19. According to the ONS, the unemployment rate in the United Kingdom stood at 4.6% in July.

The FTSE 100, the DAX, and the CAC 40 were flat at the opening bell before falling into red shortly after. In London, BHP tumbled 1.75%. Merck KGaA was the worst performer in Frankfurt, dropping 1.68%. In Paris, Alstom SA was down 0.85%.

The euro and the pound were both unchanged against the dollar at 8:59 am CET, selling for $1.18161 and $1.38536 respectively.
