Europe closes higher on optimistic outlook

Major equity markets in Europe closed higher on Thursday as investors reacted to economic data and central bank comments. Exports from the euro area rose 11.4% year-on-year, while imports were up 17.1%. Meanwhile, ECB's President Christine Lagarde said financing conditions must remain favorable for a sustainable recovery. Additionally, the bank's Governing Council member Olli Rehn shared that economic growth is "robust" but still requires policy support.

The DAX closed with 0.23% in the green led by Siemens adding 2.09%. The FTSE 100 rose by 0.16% as Ashtead Group jumped 5.26%, while the CAC 40 advanced by 0.59% with Alstom gaining 3.11%.

The euro lost 0.45% against the dollar exchanging hands for $1.17639 at 5:25 pm CET, at the same time the British pound dropped by 0.48% to trade for $1.37730.
