CDC suggests vaccinating children under 12 in China

Following the announcement that China has vaccinated over one billion people aged 12 and above, chief immunologist from China's Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Wang Huaqing suggested the country begin administering the vaccine to minors under 12 years.

China currently leads the world in vaccination rates, having fully vaccinated 70% of its 1.4 billion population. Commenting on the data, Wang said that current progress "lays a good foundation for China to control the epidemic."

However, the highly contagious Delta variant is posing a challenge to China's herd immunity, causing three localized outbreaks this year, the latest one being in the Fujian Province. According to the CDC's assessment, the current situation calls for administering the vaccine among children in order to further increase the vaccination rate.
