Dow sinks 200 pts as consumer confidence misses mark

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped over 200 points on Friday, as September's report on consumer confidence in the United States missed the analysts' estimates.

Meanwhile, the White House warned of negative consequences that a failure to lift the federal borrowing limit could bring about, claiming that the move could lead to "a recession."

The Dow Jones tumbled 0.58%, or 201 points, at 10:53 am ET, while the Nasdaq 100 plunged 1.01% at the same time. The S&P 500 concurrently lost 0.72%. At 10:56 am ET, the euro slid 0.21% compared to the dollar, selling for 1.17389.
