FDA votes against Pfizer booster shot for general public

The United States Food and Drug Administration committee rejected on Friday the plan to administer Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 booster shots to the general public due to insufficient data. The FDA follows its committees' ruling most of the time, however, the agency's final decision may come out later.

Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee that voted against the plan includes a number of scientists and FDA officials that had previously argued that it is not an appropriate time to be administering booster shots.

The panel moved on to discuss and vote on the possibility of authorizing the third shot for a different age group, such as 60 years old and above.
