Australia 'regrets' France's decision to recall envoy

Australian Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Marise Payne remarked that Canberra "notes with regret" France's decision to recall its ambassador to the Oceanian country.

"Australia values its relationship with France, which is an important partner and a vital contributor to stability, particularly in the Indo-Pacific. This will not change," Payne said. "We look forward to engaging with France again."

France recalled its ambassadors to the United States and Australia due to the two countries' deal on the acquisition of new defensive submarines. The US also expressed its regret over Paris's move.
