US housing starts rise 3.9% in August

Housing starts in the United States increased 3.9% when compared to the previous month's revised level to stand at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,615,000 in August, according to a report published by the US Census Bureau on Tuesday.

On an annual level, the housing starts came in 17.4% higher. Privately-owned housing completions came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,330,000, a month-over-month increase of 4.5%, and a yearly gain of 9.4%.

Privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits climbed to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,728,000. The level is 6% above the previous month's figure and 13.5% above the figure observed in July 2020.
