US opens lower amid data, Powell's remarks

Major stock markets in the United States opened lower on Tuesday amid the release of several economic reports throughout the day. The prices of homes in nine census divisions saw a record annual rise but still performed below market expectations. Traders will now focus on the country's latest results in consumer confidence and oil supplies, as well as on Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's new speech.

The Dow Jones traded 0.26% or 126 points lower at the opening as Inc. went down by 1.36%. The Nasdaq 100 declined by 1.16% or 175 points, with ASML Holding NV sinking by 5.14%. The S&P 500 dropped by 0.62% as Danaher Corporation declined by 3.67%.

The euro lost 0.10% to the dollar to sell for $1.16844 at 9:27 am ET.
