UK GDP rises 5.5% in Q2

The gross domestic product (GDP) of the United Kingdom increased by 5.5% in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the previous trimester, the country's Office for National Statistics (ONS) noted on Thursday. On an annual basis, the figure was up by 23.6%, but down by 3.3% in comparison to its pre-pandemic level.

In the second three-month period of the year, services output expanded by 6.5% quarter-on-quarter, while production rose by 1% compared to the prior trimester. Over the same period, construction output climbed 3.8%.

The second quarter's household consumption went up by 7.2%, while wages and salaries stood 1.7% higher.
