Wall Street turns to losses, Dow plummets 450 points

Indexes on Wall Street turned negative in afternoon trading on Thursday with the Dow Jones Industrial Average diving 450 points amid uncertainty regarding efforts to raise the debt ceiling. The House voted on Wednesday to suspend the country's debt limit until December 2022 but the bill is unlikely to be approved in the Senate as Republicans insisted they will not support the legislation.

The Dow plunged 1.25% at 12:18 pm ET. The worst performer was Walgreens Boots Alliance whose shares fell 2.66% at 12:29 pm ET.

The Nasdaq 100 lost 0.25% at 12:19 pm ET with Dollar Tree, down 5.98%, leading the losses.

The S&P 500 slid 0.87% at the same time. CarMax tumbled 11.96 at 12:14 pm ET.
