UK closes British Airways, Ryanair investigation

United Kingdom's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) stated on Thursday that it concluded its investigation into Ryanair Holdings plc and International Consolidated Airlines Group SA's British Airways over legal concerns related to their failure to "offer refunds for flights customers could not legally take during periods of lockdown."

The CMA determined that the UK law is unclear when it comes to customers' rights to a refund in "these unusual circumstances."

"[W]e have concluded that the length of time that would be required to take this case through the courts, and the uncertain outcome, can no longer justify the further expense of public money," CMA Chief Executive Andrea Coscelli specified.
