EIA: Crude oil inventories in US up by 6.1M barrels

Commercial crude oil stockpiles in the United States increased by 6.1 million barrels in the week ending October 8, the US Energy Information Administration reported on Thursday. The inventory now stands at 427.0 million barrels, which is 6% below the five-year average for this time of year.

Meanwhile, crude oil refinery inputs in the US averaged 15.1 million barrels per day, decreasing by 0.7 million barrels per day when compared to the average registered the previous week. Last week, refineries operated at 86.7% of their operable capacity, as gasoline production increased last week to an average of 9.6 million barrels per day.

Finally, US crude oil imports averaged 6.0 million barrels per day, marking a week-on-week decline of 1.0 million barrels. Total commercial petroleum inventories were up by 4.9 million barrels last week.
