India deploys army to help with heavy rain, floods

The Indian Army and the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed on Sunday to help with search and rescue efforts in Kerala state, as the region has been hit by heavy rains and floods.

According to local media reports, at least eight people have died so far as a result of the floods, with more than a dozen feared missing. Officials indicated that they expect the death toll to rise as rescue operations continue, even though the intense rainfall has subsided slightly.

The country's Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the federal government was monitoring the situation, adding that it would provide all possible support to the state and that he is "praying for everyone's safety."
