German producer prices jump 14.2% in September

Producer prices in Germany increased by 14.2% in September compared to the same month a year earlier, the country's national statistical office Destatis announced on Wednesday. In August, the producer price index was up 12%.

Energy prices surged 32.6% year on year, led by natural gas prices which skyrocketed 58.9% from September 2020. Excluding energy, the producer price index rose 8.6% compared to the same month last year. Prices of intermediate goods rose 17.4%, durable consumer goods prices were up by 3.2%, capital goods prices added 2.4%, while non-durable consumer goods prices grew by 2.2%.

On a monthly basis, the producer price index rose 2.3% in September compared to August.
