US consumer bureau to probe Big Tech over users' data - report

The United States Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is set to start an investigation on consumer data practices at several technology giants, according to a report published by The Wall Street Journal on Thursday.

Apple, Google, Amazon and Facebook will come under regulator's scrutiny, the magazine's sources said, adding that the agency will issue orders seeking information on how the companies use consumers' financial information.

The probe is expected to start amid urges from both Democratic and Republican legislators for a comprehensive reform of laws related to the operations of US technology companies.
