6.5-magnitude earthquake hits Taiwan

An earthquake with a 6.5 magnitude has hit Taiwan, the Taiwanese Weather Bureau and the United States Geological Survey reported on Sunday.

With a depth of 66.8km and an epicentre in Yilan county, the earthquake was felt across the island, particularly in the capital, Taipei, but no damage was reported.

Some workers at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing were evacuated in accordance with the chipmaker's safety procedures. According to local authorities, both the power grid and the Taipei metro are currently running with no interruptions.
