Verizon, Amazon partner for rural broadband project

Verizon Communications Inc. unveiled on Tuesday that it will be partnering with Inc.'s Project Kuiper in order to bring greater access for rural broadband across the United States.

Verizon noted that it plans to use Amazon's low earth orbit satellite system to extend its terrestrial services, with Kuiper also providing a way for the greater range of 4G/LTE and 5G data networks. Moreover, the companies noted that they also plan to "define preliminary commercial models for a range of connectivity services for U.S. consumers and global enterprise customers."

Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg stated that the partnership will "help us explore ways to bridge that divide and accelerate the benefits and innovation of wireless connectivity," while Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said that he is "proud to be working together to explore bringing fast, reliable broadband to the customers and communities who need it most."
